BDO Ambition Survey 2011

CFOs’ optimism is reinforced in the 2011 results, despite continuing challenges

 Our clients continue to approach us for advice regarding their plans to develop their businesses overseas. With this in mind, in this second year of the BDO Ambition Survey we have sought to identify the factors that make a new market attractive. We also asked CFOs to share the knowledge gleaned from their global expansion experiences in order to help our clients.

Research was conducted in thirteen countries and the focus of the study was to assess where mid-cap international businesses see the greatest opportunities for further growth, as well as which markets will have the biggest impact on their balance sheets in the next three years.  We sought to identify the strategies, critical success factors and challenges to cross-border growth encountered by those companies experienced in international expansion.
 
Almost all of the CFOs we spoke to believe that they will be successful in their overseas expansion initiatives - as long as they conduct proper research, make sure they have talented, local people on the ground and seek good, solid advice. The survey’s BDO Global Market Opportunity Index found that the top three global investment destinations are China, USA and Germany, with China representing fully three times the business opportunity of Brazil, UK or France.
